Settled In

It's been two weeks now since I've been in DC. I'm finally feeling comfortable and getting use to the area I'm in. I don't know why I keep saying DC! I actually live in Maryland which is 20 minutes from downtown DC. Since I stay in the DMV area, I can just go 5 minutes down the road and I'm in DC or  Virginia. So it's the metropolitan area. I just LOVE going downtown, which is where all the monuments and things are. Absolutely beautiful! The city just looks so big and full of surprises. I love that! Too bad I don't live downtown. I don't even want to get into what my living situation is! Absolutely dreadful!

Finally got to put my new camera to use. I let my brother take pictures of me because I don't have a tripod anymore. It broke. The pictures are a little blurry and the quality isn't that great because I shot at the worst time, so lighting is bad and this is like my brother first time using a camera, at least that's what it seemed like.

I planned on finding a job within the first two weeks of me being in town. I've only been on one interview, by choice. I'm trying to work at H&M and I'm currently going through the interview process. I got called back for my second interview today. Let's hope this falls through. If not, I'll being taking my behind right back to American Apparel.

It's actually been cold here but this week we're getting some nice warm weather, so I wanted to wear this strapless top that I didn't get a chance to wear back in Florida. I paired it with my high waist jeans for a casual look. I really want some boyfriend jeans. I'd wear those suckers every other day. They look great with everything! Let's definitely ignore my HIDEOUS hairstyle. Absolutely hate it!! It's a very awkward length and does not flatter my face but I have to stick with it for now, sadly.

"Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else."

I guess you can say that I'm never satisfied. Wasn't I really excited in my other post about my new position? Can you believe that excitement is totally non-existent now? Or could you believe that I absolutely hate my job? Who would have thought? I'm styling! That's what I love to do, but I must say, there is much more to being a merchandiser than just simply putting clothes on a mannequin. Not that I wasn't prepared for that. I did, after all, take visual merchandising classes in school. I just wasn't aware of how much I actually hate being a visual merchandiser.

I literally have no fun. Styling isn't even fun. Why? Because you're so focused on making sure that you create "the look" they're going for that you miss the fun part. On top of that, mannequins are the devil. They are these evil things that just do not want to cooperate with you. They also way a ton! Sometimes I have to get on a ladder and lift these huge things up to put them on a shelf and while I'm doing that they like to fall apart! Anyway, by the end of the day I'm completely exhausted, very upset, and depressed that I have to come back the next day and do it all over again. Not to mention that I sometimes work 10-14 hour days. And to put the icing on the cake, I still haven't actually got the promotion or my raise! It's been a month and two weeks. I thought this would make being in Miami a bit better for me. I was wrong, it made it much worse.

Now that I'm done complaining, I have much catching up to do with you guys. A few things have changed within the last month. For me, none of it is good changes. I hate complaining but I'm at a low right now, been here for a while now. I'm actually in the process of searching for some good motivational and inspirational books to get me out of my funk. Something to help me to see the good things in my current situation. But for now, I have to go get in the shower and get ready for work.

By the way, everything went wrong with this shoot. That's why there are no full body shots. I'm disappointed I couldn't show the details of my pants but these pics will have to do right?

Things will get better with time

I'm glad to say that everything has been going much better since the last time I posted. I am now employed at American Apparel and having a job has made everything a lot better. So, I now spend most of the week working. I must say, working retail is not as "fun" as I thought it would be but no complaints here. I'm just enjoying working. I'll be adding some American Apparel clothes in with my wardrobe because I have a lot of there clothes now, being we have to dress in all AA.

I have been gone for a while but I will be back to my regular posting. It's been way too long. Plus, I'll have way more time on my hands. Winter break is coming up.

We do not see things as they are..

You really don't know what you have until it's gone. As cliche' as that sounds it couldn't be more true for me right now. In one of my previous post I explained how much I'm not liking my move to Miami and I wanted to give a little more insight to that so you can understand exactly how I feel. By the way, thank you guys so much for your encouraging words. I really appreciate it. Nice to know you are listening reading.

When I was at Bethune-Cookman (my previous school) I did nothing but complain about how much I didn't like it. Everyone around me would, actually. We had nothing nice to say about it, but we all had one thing in common. We all couldn't wait to come back after summer break. Yes, so hypocritical. Even though we complained, Bethune was a place you got use to, somewhere you learned to enjoy. It was your home away from home.

The bottom line is now that I'm here in Miami I realized what I left behind. I left my very best friend along with many other close friends, the convenience of the campus, my organization, the empowerment from being at an HBCU, my boyfriend, that home feeling and my happiness. The main thing is that I realized how happy I actually was there. Especially since I have something to compare it to. I understand the opportunities this school and living in Miami can bring me, but it's not the only way.

I'm a traditional college kind of girl. So, this type of school just isn't for me. At least not yet. The atmosphere is just so different here and not in a good way. It's not welcoming, very cold. To be at an art school I just don't see the enthusiasm I thought I would. So, I won't be staying. I'm fine with finding a different way into the fashion industry. This way just isn't for me.

P.S. sorry for the bad quality pics. I shot on my balcony which gets NO light.  My face seriously looks like shit!

The Fourth| My Birthday| My Move to Miami

Where have the days went? So much to talk about and share with you guys. Unfortunately, it won't be any good news. Just rambles of my silly unhappiness. First, I'll share with you what I wore for the fourth. The fam and I went to the Capital Fourth in DC. The only exciting thing was seeing hearing Jordan Sparks sing. I'm not a fan of her but she has an AMAZING voice. I didn't even enjoy the fireworks. *yawns* It was pretty boring. They're nothing like the ones in Atlanta. I did enjoy being out there though. At least we were doing something!

Moving on to more important things. My birthday just passed! Shout out to Addicted 2 Etsy  for wishing me a happy birthday in my previous post. It was July 7th and I turned 20. As I mentioned before..no big deal. The day before my birthday I left for Miami and new student orientation was actually on my birthday. I must say, it was the worst day ever, just dreadful! Anyways, I moved into my new dorm/apartment as well. It's very nice and so are my three other roommates. Unfortunately, I hate my room. It's too small. Me and my roommate can never set it up a way where we both like it. To add to that the ceilings are not closed so I can hear EVERYTHING going on outside my door. It's horrible. I can never go to sleep when I want to. Here are some pics of me in Miami.

On my Birthday. I was walking to Target. It was far.

My bum gear. Threw this on to run errands. (Third day in Miami) I was hoping on a free train here, at the Omni.

This is today. My first day of school. It went well.

Even though everything is going well, I can't fight the urge to want to go home. I have no clue what it is I hate so much about being here but I'm just not happy. Every five minutes I'm thinking about leaving. I love studying fashion but I don't know, it doesn't seem worth it right now. Hopefully my feelings change as time goes by.

P.s.- I"ll be back to my regular outfit post tomorrow. I found a thrift store while I was here. ; ) Turns out I won't be able to post as much as I did when I was in school previously. I don't have as much free time as I once did. So, I'll try to post at least once a week.

Getting Better At This

I took these photos for the specific purpose of practicing so I can get better at taking them by myself. It actually wasn't hard this time. It was actually a piece of cake. Anyway, I'm spending all of my time reading twilight books and watching the movies. I was serious about the obsession. Also, I'm almost at 200 followers! I would like to thank you guys for all of your support. I really appreciate it and be sure to like the facebook page located above. Enjoy the photos!

I should really try to smile more. I look so mean..

Colorful Head Wrap

As you can see the braids didn't quite work out. I'll have to wait a month or two before I can install them. My hair isn't long enough for how big I want the braids to be and I don't want small braids. So, I'll just have to wait longer (sad face). In the mean time I'll be happily rocking my short blonde hair for now.

Now to the head wrap. I got this scarf a long time ago when I was in high school. I think it came from Macy's. At the time, I loved the scarf but eventually grew tired of it. So, it just sat in my dresser collecting dust. I still took it with me when I went to college just "in case" I could make some use of it. Still didn't until recently. I love the head wrap/turban trend and I have yet to go out and purchase more scarves. I only own three including this one, so I finally decided to use it and I'm in love again!

I had to take all of my pictures by myself. Hard task! I decided to go ahead and get use to it because once I move to Miami I won't have anyone to do it for me. At least until I meet my new best friend. So bare with me. I also filmed a video by myself which took all of my light! From now on I'll be getting by butt up and doing shoots in the morning. Hopefully I'll get better at this!

P.S.- using a self timer sucks!

Denim on Denim

It was a beautiful day! After all the rain the other day, you wouldn't think it would clean up so nicely. So, I have no complaints about the picture quality. Perfect weather for shooting. My camera works it's absolute best in this kind of lighting. It's the only way it works good actually.

Today, I will be installing box braids! I'm super excited. I'm so tired of the hair I have now and I've been wanting box braids for months now! Ever since I've been seeing this new "waist length" style I've been dieing for them. I was over them at one point but I see them in a new light now. People have been styling them so nicely that I must try.

It'll probably take me all week to do. The goal is to complete them in two days but we'll see. I get so lazy sometimes. They also might look crazy. I have jet black braiding hair and MY hair is blonde. That should be interesting. I probably should have got a brownish black. Oh well. Next time you see me I will be braided up, hopefully.

(top-goodwill, shorts-rugged ware house, tight, socks, shoes- forever 21)

I like this look better with the shirt tucked out. Like in the second pic above. Now that I really look at this look, I would like it better with my combat boots. I was dieing to put on these heels though. I have no clue
why.

New music my Solange. I love it.

Downtown Chic

It's raining cats and dogs here! I actually shot this post while it was raining so the quality sucks! Just a heads up!

This outfit reminds me of Erykah Badu for some reason. Seems like something she would wear. I love it to death. This has become one of my favorite outfits. I think it's really edgy and bold. I want to stick to outfits like this for a while. I have been getting bored with my wardrobe again. Typical me.

Cute & Casual

It was extremely hot yesterday! So, I wanted to keep cool as much as possible! Of course that didn't work. I still in enjoyed wearing these new thrifted shorts I got from the thrift store in Daytona. It became an instant fav. I can't wait to do some more thrift shopping so I can stalk my closet with beautiful spring/summer colors!

I've been spending my days in Orlando, usually out somewhere with my boyfriend. I only have a limited time with him. I have to go home to Virgina, while he stays here in Florida in school. Even when I come back in July I'll be far since I'm moving to Miami. So, we're squeezing the hell out of all the time we have!

The photos are suck-y. The sun was going down by the time I decided to shoot them. *womp womp*
